• Do you do anything in color?

No, I exclusively take commissions for charcoal landscapes/portraits, it is a medium I have practiced for multiple years and feel the most confident in offering services for. In the future I may expand to offering pieces in color, but please do not ask for a medium that isn’t shown in my portfolio.

  • What size paper do you offer?

I use both 18x24in and 9x12in paper, which can be either horizontally or vertically oriented depending on the reference photo and placement in your space.

  • What types of reference photos do you use?

I mainly do landscape drawings, specifically of forest or ocean scenes, but I’m open to discussing a variety of themes! The key is that the photo has a high enough contrast and a clear composition. Photos that are too cluttered and busy won’t transfer well to a charcoal interpretation while photos that are too simple can be underwhelming; it’s all about balance.

  • What should I look for in a reference photo?

The most important detail in a reference photo is where it comes from, I cannot take a commission of a random image from the internet unless it explicitly states that it is free use. However, don’t worry! There are many sites like pexels.com which offer a catalogue of images specifically for artists to use without worrying about copyright, but you can also always send in photos that you have taken yourself or otherwise know the origin of. If you’re unsure of the exact image that you want, but you have a focus or theme in mind, I can search my own photos as well as copyright free catalogues to try and find something that fits what you’re looking for. If you can’t find a reference that you like, we can discuss combining multiple images as well!

Most of all, please be sure you have a strong vision of what you want so that we can avoid going back and forth trying to pin down the perfect reference photo.

  • How long does a commission take?

Depending on the size and complexity of the piece, as well as the time of year (I am a full time university student), a piece can take anywhere from one week to one month to finish. If you have a certain deadline you need the piece by, please be upfront about it and we can work out the best way to make sure you receive the art in time! Please be aware that this may include an additional fee to rush the order if you need a piece done during a particularly busy timeframe or if you need it less than a week from commissioning.

  • What are your rates?

    • 18x24in charcoal drawing: $200

    • 9x12in charcoal drawing: $110

These are starting rates which will increase if the reference photo is especially complicated or difficult to draw, and they do not include shipping cost.
